Uses of Poly Butylene Adipate-co-terephthalate

Time:2022-03-17

Uses of Poly Butylene Adipate-co-terephthalate:

Poly butylene adipate-co-terephthalate (PBAT), also known as polybutylene glycol butyrate, is a semi-aromatic, biodegradable thermoplastic copolyester that can be easily molded and thermoformed. PBAT is a random copolymerization of 1,4-butanediol and dimethyl terephthalate (DMT) monomers. PBAT has many attractive properties similar to those of Hpolyethylene. For example, PBAT has a relatively high elongation at break (30-40%) and moderately high impact, but only moderate tensile strength and low stiffness.

Poly Butylene Adipate-co-terephthalate Description:

The properties of PBAT can be adjusted by changing the ratio of its monomer units and by combining it with other biodegradable polymers. They are typically similar to high-density or low-density polyethylene and can therefore be used for similar applications in food packaging and agricultural films. In addition, it is fully biodegradable (compostable) and can be processed on conventional blown film equipment used for polyethylene. PBAT has also been investigated as a toughening agent for PLA.

PBAT is a thermoplastic biodegradable plastic, which is a copolymer of butylene adipate and butylene terephthalate. PBAT has the characteristics of both PBA and PBT, with good ductility and elongation at break, as well as good heat resistance and impact performance. In addition, Poly butylene adipate-co-terephthalate also has excellent biodegradability, and is one of the most popular and best degradable materials in biodegradable plastic research and market application.

Poly Butylene Adipate-co-terephthalate Properties:

PBAT is a semi-crystalline polymer, usually with a crystallization temperature around 110°C and a melting point around 130°C. The density of PBAT is between 1.18g/ml and 1.3g/ml. The crystallinity of PBAT is about 30% and the Shore hardness is above 85. PBAT is a copolymer of aliphatic and aromatic, combining the excellent degradation properties of aliphatic polyesters. The processing performance of PBAT is very similar to that of LDPE and can be blown with LDPE processing equipment.
