PBAT (Poly butylene adipate-co-terephthalate)

PBAT (Poly butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) Introduction:

PBAT has excellent mechanical performance, almost same as PP and ABS. Good heat resistance and outstanding process ability allows it to be variously processed on conventional blown film plants. Poly butylene adipate-co-terephthalate is the best biodegradable plastic in terms of process ability in current market. PBAT can be blended with a great quantity of calcium carbonate and starch etc. to produce cost effective products. Such as Shopping bags, mulching films, paper coating, labels, other packaging materials.

Name PBAT (Poly butylene adipate-co-terephthalate)
Molecular Formula H-(O-(CH2)4-O-CO-(CH2)4-CO-)n-(O-(CH2)4-O-CO-C6H4-(O-)m-H
CAS NO. 55231-08-8
Color Natural White
Package 25kg aluminum bag, each 20′ container can load 17mt
800kg aluminum big bag, each 20′ container can load 16mt

Our PBAT Resin is completely degradable according to various international standards and regulations like European standard EN 13432 and American Standard ASTM 6400. PBAT will be eventually biodegraded to carbon dioxide, water and biomass when metabolized in the soil or degradable under standard conditions. Our resins are also certified by Ok Compost, BPI, ABAM, JBPA, FDA, EU Food Contact regulations, etc.

Temperatures during transportation and storage should not exceed 70 ºC. Keep resin in dry and ventilated warehouse to prevent moisture. Avoid contacting with soil, water and sludge, and no exposure to direct sunlight and extreme temperature. The maximum shelf life is 2 years in ambient temperature of 23ºC if the package has been tightly sealed.

It is recommended to pre-dry the material prior to getting the best processing performance. If the moisture of the resin isless than 0.05% pre-drying may not be needed.
Typical drying conditions: 2 hours at 80ºC (175ºF).

Processing Guide:

TH801T is not suitable for direct film blowing, it is suggested to add slip additive like SiO2 or CaCO3, it can also be blended with starch, PLA, PHA, cellulous etc. Normally the extrusion temperature is 140ºC -170ºC which depends on formula and processing machine, it is important to make sure the blowing machine starts from the lowest temperature. If the blowing performance is not optimized it is recommended to increase the temperature by 5ºC.

Properties and Applications:

Poly butylene adipate-co-terephthalate (PBAT), also known as polybutyrate, is a semi-aromatic, biodegradable thermoplastic copolyester that can be easily molded and thermoformed. It is produced by random co-polymerization of 1,4-butanediol, adipic acid, and dimethyl terephthalate (DMT) monomers. PBAT has many attractive properties that are similar to Hpolyethylene. For example, it has relative high elongation at break (30 – 40%) as well as moderate high impact and puncture toughness, but only moderate tensile strength and low stiffness.1

PBAT’s properties can be tuned by varying the ratio of its monomer units and by combination with other biodegradable polymers. They are typically similar to those of high or low density polyethylene, and thus can be used for similar applications in food packaging and agricultural film applications. Furthermore, it is fully biodegradable (compostable) and can be processed on conventional blown film equipment used for polyethylene. PBAT has also been investigated as a toughening agent for poly(lactic acid) PLA.
