Tetrahydrofuran (THF) is a colorless, volatile liquid with the odor of ether or acetone and is miscible with water and most organic solvents. THF is highly flammable and may thermally decompose into carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide.
THF Uses:
1. THF is an organic solvent with excellent performance and is widely used because of its fast dissolution speed. THF is used as a solvent in format reaction, polymerization reaction. Dissolving polyvinyl chloride, polyvinylidene chloride and their copolymers yields low-viscosity solutions, which are commonly used in the manufacture of surface coatings, protective coatings, adhesives and films. THF is also used in inks, paint strippers, extractants, surface treatment of artificial leather, etc. This product is made into polyether type polyurethane elastomer by self-polymerization and copolymerization, which is characterized by high resilience performance. THF is an important chemical material for the preparation of butadiene, nylon, polybutylene glycol ether, γ-butyrolactone, polyvinylpyrrolidone, tetrahydrothiophene, etc. The product is also an intermediate of organic synthesis such as drugs.
2. Tetrahydrofuran is an important raw material and excellent solvent for organic synthesis. Tetrahydrofuran has good solubility for many organic substances and can dissolve all organic compounds except polyethylene, polypropylene and fluorine resin, especially for polyvinyl chloride, polyvinylidene chloride and nitrile rubber, and is widely used as a reactive solvent. As a common solvent, tetrahydrofuran has been commonly used in surface coatings, protective coatings, inks, extractants and surface treatment of artificial leather. Tetrahydrofuran is an important raw material for the production of polytetramethylene ether glycol (PTMEG) and is a major solvent in the pharmaceutical industry. THF is used as a solvent for natural and synthetic resins (especially vinyl resins), and also for the manufacture of butadiene, adiponitrile, adipic acid, adipamide, etc.
3. THF is used as solvent, intermediate of chemical synthesis, analytical reagent.
