NMP N-Methylpyrrolidone
NMP N-Methylpyrrolidone Instruction:
N-Methylpyrrolidone is an organic substance with the chemical formula C5H9NO, a colorless to light yellow transparent liquid with a slight ammonia odor, miscible with water in any proportion, soluble in various organic solvents such as ether, acetone and esters, halogenated hydrocarbons, aromatic hydrocarbons, etc., and almost completely mixed with all solvents.
1-Methyl-2-Pyrrolidone Chemical Properties:
Relatively stable in neutral solutions. Hydrolyzed in 50%-70% 4% sodium hydroxide solution after 8 hours. Hydrolysis occurs gradually in concentrated hydrochloric acid, producing 4-methylaminobutyric acid. Due to the reaction of the carbonyl group, NMP yields ketone or thiopyrrolidone.
N-Methylpyrrolidone is weakly basic and produces hydrochloride. NMP forms adducts with heavy metal salts, for example, with nickel bromide heated to 150°C, forming NiBr2(C5H9ON)3 with a melting point of 105°C.
Emergency Measures:
Inhalation:If inhaled, move patient to fresh air. If breathing stops, perform artificial respiration. Consult a physician.
Skin contact:Rinse with soap and plenty of water. Consult a physician.
Eye contact:Flush thoroughly with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes and consult a physician.
Ingestion:Do not induce vomiting. Do not give anything orally to an unconscious person. Rinse mouth with water. Consult a physician.
Fire Extinguishing Measures:
Extinguishing methods and extinguishing agents: water mist, ethanol-resistant foam, dry powder or carbon dioxide.
Special hazards originating from the substance or mixture: carbon oxides, nitrogen oxides.
Emergency Response to a Spill:
Worker protection, protective equipment and emergency response procedures. Use personal protective equipment. Avoid inhalation of vapors, fumes or gases. Ensure adequate ventilation. Eliminate all sources of ignition. Evacuate personnel to a safe area. Beware of accumulation of vapors to explosive concentrations. Vapors can accumulate in low-lying areas.
Environmental Protection Measures. If safety can be assured, take measures to prevent further leaks or spills. Do not allow product to enter sewers.
Methods of receiving and removing spilled chemicals and disposal materials used: contain the spill, collect the spill with an electrically resistant vacuum or wet brush, and place NMP in a container for disposal in accordance with local regulations. Place in a suitable closed container for disposal.
