1-Methyl-2-Pyrrolidone Applications:

1-Methyl-2-Pyrrolidone is used to recover certain hydrocarbons generated during the processing of petrochemicals, such as the recovery of 1,3-butadiene and acetylene. NMP can be used to absorb hydrogen sulfide from acid gases and hydrodesulfurization facilities. Its good solvency properties allow NMP to be used to dissolve various polymers. Specifically, N-Methylpyrrolidone is used as a surface treatment solvent for textiles, resins and metal-coated plastics, or as a paint stripper.

NMP is also used as a solvent for the commercial preparation of polyphenylene sulfide. In the pharmaceutical industry, N-Methylpyrrolidone is used in drug formulations for oral. N-Methylpyrrolidone is also used in large quantities in the manufacture of lithium-ion batteries, although efforts are underway to replace NMP with less environmentally problematic solvents.


N-Methylpyrrolidone Characteristic:

N-Methylpyrrolidone is a colorless to light yellow transparent liquid, highly hygroscopic, miscible with most organic solvents such as water, ethanol. Chemically stable, but acid or base will break the lactam ring.

N-Methylpyrrolidone Application:

Widely used in petrochemicals, pesticides, pharmaceuticals, electronic materials and other fields. NMP is used in desulfurization of synthesis gas, recovery and refining of acetylene, extraction of olefins, polymerization of insoluble engineering plastics, etc.

Another major application at present is in the processing of lithium batteries. As a slurry solvent in the processing of lithium batteries, NMP can dissolve binders and disperse active substances, which can be recovered through the recovery system during the process of use.
